Dr Brendan Triffett is an Australian Catholic philosopher with a special interest in metaphysics and theological ontology.
Brendan lives in New South Wales with his wife and four children. He has lectured in theology, ethics and critical thinking at Christian tertiary institutions (Alphacrucis, Tabor College Tasmania) and has delivered papers on various topics in philosophy and theology at a number of academic conferences throughout Australia.
Brendan completed his PhD in philosophy at the University of Tasmania in 2011. His doctoral thesis compared Thomas Aquinas and John Milbank on the metaphysics of participation.
Brendan is especially interested in metaphysics and the intersection of philosophy and theology. He has published articles in The Heythrop Journal and Mercator online, and chapters in two books published by the Christopher Dawson Centre. He is in the process of setting up an online philosophy school designed especially for Catholics.
One of Brendan’s major influences is the theology and philosophy of the Communio school, in particular the work of David L. Schindler and his son David C. Schindler. Other influences include Thomas Aquinas, Jean-Luc Marion, Claude Bruaire, William Desmond, Hans-Georg Gadamer and Dietrich von Hildebrand.
Brendan’s favourite composers are Beethoven, Sibelius and Mahler. He has composed a number of works for solo piano.
